Darkness Unbound

Title: Darkness Unbound (Dark Angel, #1)
Author: Keri Arthur
Edition: Paperback

Synopsis:
Risa Jones is as extraordinary as her heritage. Born from a lab-enhanced clone mother and an Aedh father, she can not only talk to the souls of the dying and the dead, but she can see the reapers and walk the gray fields that divide this world from the next.

They are skill she rarely uses, however, preferring to concentrate on the business she shares with her two best friends. But when her mother asks her to help the parents of a little girl locked in a coma, she reluctantly agrees. What she discovers scares the hell out of her. Because the little girl’s soul no longer resides in her body, and it wasn’t death and the reapers that took her.

Someone had ripped her soul from her flesh.

As it turns out, a creature consuming the souls of the innocent–and not so innocent–is the least of her problems.

Because someone wants to rip open the gates that divided hell from earth, and Risa is a key component in their plans.

And the only person standing between her and disaster is a reaper who isn’t exactly on her side.

My Thoughts:
This book is the a spin off of Keri Arthur's Riley Jenson series. Risa, who was a child in that series is now an adult and his also part werewolf and part Aedh. When Risa's mother ask her to help out a friend whose daughter is in a coma, she soon realizes that the little girl is not just in a coma, but her soul has been torn out of her body. Now Risa is set on a mission to stop whatever is ripping the souls out of people's bodies and to stop whoever it is that is trying to rip open the gates that divide heaven and hell and they want Risa on team, one way or another.

This book was amazing! Let me start off saying that I am so glad that Riley made some appearances in this book. I absolutely loved the Riley Jenson series. They touch on the kids she had a little bit, but I want to know if they will be in this series as a character! But anyways back to this story....

I knew there would be a lot of action in this book just because of Keri Arthur as an author. Her books are always fill with action and drama and sensual heat. But before I get into all of that, I loved Risa's character. She was bad ass with attitude and knows how to take care of herself. Her character was fun and smart and knew how to survive with the situations thrown at her. This book didn't have the usual romance that it had in the author's previous series but it did have some "heated" scenes, which were written out very well. You could feel the chemistry between the characters when the moments were happening.

I also really enjoyed Azriel's character. He was a different kind of character that I've had the pleasure of reading about. I really hope something develops there! These two have a chemistry that I really enjoyed but wished it kind of touched on. It left me wanting more. I also like Risa's two bestfriends characters, they had a sense of humor that came along for this book.

And the ending with Risa's mother!!! So sad, I liked her character so much in the Riley Jenson series. And also with the head of the directorate..... What? Really? Can't wait to read the sequel. This book is definitely for people 18+. I recommend this book of this is a genre you love!
